August 13, 1929 - August 21, 2021
1929-2021 ~ Elizabeth Krause (Neufeld) passed away peacefully at her home at Garden Towers on August 21st, 2021. Betty was born on August 13th, 1929 in Sparrau Ukraine. Her parents were Henry & Sussana Neufeld.
The family had tremendous hardship with the Communist rule. Her Father was taken away by the Russian army in 1937, never to be seen again. Her mother was also taken away, and Betty and her 2 siblings were put in separate orphanages. Her mother taught her the Lord's Prayer and she prayed every night. Finally, months later they got their mother back, but no father.
During the war they fled from Russia to Poland, then Germany. After World War 2 they were refugees with no place to go. As refugees the family made their way to Paraguay, as Paraguay agreed to take in refugees. In 1947 through the help of their Uncle Abe Thiessen in Canada, the family was able to immigrate to Canada, living with their Uncle Abe in Sumas Prairie.
The first winter Betty was allowed to attend Bible school. During that time, she accepted Christ as her savior and Lord. She was baptized in 1948 on her confession of faith by Rev J.B. Wiens.
The next winter she went to Vancouver to work as a maid, and met her future husband Henry Krause in Vancouver. They were married Nov 5th, 1950 in Yarrow United Mennonite Church. Following the wedding they moved to Vancouver where Elizabeth did day work.
In 1951 they purchased and moved to a small farm on Gladwin Rd. in South Abbotsford. They grew Strawberries and chickens, and from there we farmed, and Henry built houses. They went on many holidays to Hawaii and traveled to many places with friends and family. They were charter members of Eben-Ezer Church and helped build the church and participated in fellowship and it's various ministries.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Henry Krause, her parents Henry and Susanna Neufeld, her brother Henry Neufeld and 3 infant children.
Betty is survived by son Peter Krause, son Harvey (Suzie) Krause, 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and her sister Hilda Guenther.
We want to thank the caregivers for the quality of life that they gave her in the last days.

The family had an invite-only burial and memorial service on Saturday August 28, 2021, at 10 am.
