Edith Mary Nelson (nee Canning) passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 18, 2006. Edie would have been 83 years old on February 27. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, Robert; children Sharon, Carol (France) and David (Serena); six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister Phyllis; sister-in-law Doreen; nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preÂdeceased by her parents Sam and Margaret Canning, and her brother Albert. Edie was a long-time Mission resident, originally settling in Mission with her family as a child in 1937, and then returning to live in Mission with her own family in 1965. She worked at Mission Hospital as a Registered Nurse, and also enjoyed doing volunteer work in the community. Edie was a loving wife and mother, and also loved to cook, sew, paint and travel extensively, enjoying many trips together with Robert to Europe, Asia, New Zealand, Australia and all over North America.
Edie’s family sincerely thanks the staff at the Extended Care Unit of Mission Memorial Hospital for their care and kindness.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 24, 2006 at 3:00 pm at Woodlawn Mission Funeral Home, 7386 Horne Street, Mission, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edie’s memory may be made to the Parkinson Society of BC or to the BC Children’s Hospital.
