DAVEY, Doris, nee Brown

Doris passed away on March 23, 2010 at Bevan Lodge in Abbotsford just two months before her 101st birthday. She was born in 1909 in Heighington, County Durham, England, spent her infancy on a farm in the Yorkshire Dales, and came to Vancouver in 1913 with her parents. Her father returned to serve in World War I with the Canadian Army at Ypres, Passchendaele, and Mons and in the postwar occupation of Western Germany. Doris graduated from Kitsilano High School, and during the 1930's became 'Forelady' of the binding department at Keystone Press. She married Wilmot (Bill) Davey in 1938, and came to Abbotsford with him in 1939. Doris and Bill, who predeceased her in 1985, were both active in Abbotsford area service clubs. She was President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Abbotsford Fraternal Order of Eagles in 1956-57, and later, Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. She will be greatly missed by her son Frank of Strathroy, Ontario, her grandchildren Michael Davey of Burnaby and Sara Sugarman of Toronto, and great grandchildren Elyse Sugarman and Grace Davey, as well as by the caring and reliable staff of Bevan Lodge to whom we are all extremely grateful. A Graveside service will be held on Monday, March 29, 2010 at 11:00 am at Hazelwood Cemetery, Abbotsford. Remembrances and tributes may be sent to www.hendersonsabbotsfordfunerals.com.
