September 26, 1933 - June 25, 2024

Doreen Morris (née Mellor) passed away peacefully on June 25 after a busy and productive life. Doreen was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, 26 September 1933.

She and her husband Joe Morris arrived in Vancouver in 1966 with three children in tow, and built their future here.

Doreen retired from Eaton's department store after over a quarter of a century, first at Park Royal and eventually at Sevenoaks. But retirement wasn't her cup of tea, so she managed Victoria Court Apartments and then Park Lane Apartments in Abbotsford until well into her eighties.

Doreen and Joe and brother-in-law Frankie built or renovated house after house, first in Port Coquitlam, then in Mission. No matter what stage of renovation the houses were in, she always managed to pull together a spectacular Sunday dinner that was the highlight of everyone's week.

She loved gardening, crossword puzzles, knitting, home decorating, and watching sports, especially football and golf. She would drop everything to play a game of Scrabble or cards and she was a friend to all dogs. Dislikes included ugly shoes, green food, speeding tickets, and gerbils.

She was the biggest cheerleader for all of our endeavours and, for three generations, could be counted on to show up for dance recitals, musical performances, sports, talks, special events, and chauffeur service at any hour of the day or night.

Known to us as Moth, Wee Mum, Grandma, and G.G., Doreen is deeply missed by her family: Anne and Keith Toews, Olga and Percy Hymers, Frank and Susan Morris, Jessica and Mike Huxley, Michal and Artur Voskanyan, Robin and Nathan Speedie, Joe and Sonja Hymers, Leith and Amy Hymers, Everett Morris and Danielle Walton. She had a special place in her heart for her great-grandchildren, Callum, Melody, Henrik, and Emma.

The family are profoundly grateful for the care that Doreen received on East 2 at Menno Home, which was beyond exceptional.

At Doreen's insistence, there will be no service. We will celebrate her life every day and will forever hold fond memories of her in our hearts.

If you feel inspired to recognize Doreen's passing, please consider making a gift to the Canadian Cancer Society.
