April 17, 1930 - April 24, 2019
Don's sudden death was a shock to all who knew him. Predeceased by the love of his life Helen, he is survived by her children; David, Freya and Peter, grandson Francois, and sister-in-law Meg and family.
Don was raised in Ontario by his aunt, whom he always considered to be his mother. As she aged, her blindness became more severe. Don felt it was his responsibility to look after his mother and he cared for her until she died. He had many career changes in his life as he fulfilled the role of bread-winner for his mother and himself, from chicken farmer in Alberta to cab driver to becoming a well respected salesman for Olympic Meats.
Don and Helen were both animal lovers and always had a least one dog in the family. Don enjoyed singing and acting in community theatre. He sang in church choirs and enjoyed being part of "The Happy Gang" singing in retirement homes in Abbotsford. Don participated in the White Rock Players, where he met Helen, and the Langley Players. The two of them conceived the "Footlight Players", producing and directing two plays a year for a decade at Langley United Church. Don enjoyed time with his many friends and kept involved with his church and the community as he was able.
Always a gentleman, he will be missed. A celebration of Don's life will be held on Saturday, May 18, at 3 pm at Trinity Memorial United Church, 33737 George Ferguson Way, Abbotsford, BC.
