Donna van Donselaar was born in Oosterzee, Friesland, Netherlands. She was the third oldest of 14 siblings. She moved to Canada with her husband and children in 1962. Donna was predeceased by her husband Henk in 2012 and son Rudy in 1974.
She is survived by sons Ryk, Ron, Cary van Donselaar, and daughter Brenda Wacey along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nephews and nieces scattered across Canada and The Netherlands.
In 1962 the family emigrated to Canada. The first home in Canada was in Telkwa, BC. It was a difficult time for Donna due to the isolation but also the language barrier was a significant obstacle. The following spring the family relocated to Richmond, BC.
Donna worked as a house-cleaner in Richmond, BC. and then later as a Care Aid in the Menno Home in Abbotsford, BC. She worked there for 25 years and was much appreciated by both the staff and the residents. Donna loved her garden and had a gift for making flowers grow. She often had family and friends over for a coffee and dessert served in her special china cups.
A celebration of life will be held sometime in the spring of next year, although no date has been set. An announcement will be made when a venue and date is decided.
Donna will be interred in the Hazelwood cemetery in Abbotsford, BC. alongside her son Rudy.
