Dan served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during the Korean War. Dan worked for Oak Harbor Freight Lines during high school. Following graduation he went to work full time, working on a contract with the Naval Air Station. When that contract ceased, Dan transferred to the freight lines office in Seattle. Dan was diagnosed with cancer and he and Alice decided to make the very best of their time together. They purchased a truck and a fifth wheel and traveled extensively for several months. They took a cruise through Hungary and Austria and a trip to Hawaii. Dan enjoyed crabbing, clamming and working in his yard. He was always the optimist, always willing to help in any way possible and had a strong work ethic. He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Oak Harbor.
