Catherine Louise Carlson

September 3, 2004

Catherine Louise Carlson (Sapsford) of Abbotsford, B.C., died peacefully at home on September 3rd, 2004, after a three year fight with ovarian cancer.

Born January 22, 1956 in Victoria, Cathy was raised and educated there, graduating from the University of Victoria in 1978. Married to Robert (Fred) Carlson that same year, she spent four years supporting him during his post-graduate studies and working in medical research at Vancouver General Hospital. After stints in Vancouver, St. John's and Lillooet, Cathy moved to Abbotsford in 1987, where she committed herself to providing a loving and nurturing home and where her passion for sport, dance and the visual arts provided rich and fulfilling experiences for her and her family.

Cathy is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Fred; children Rebecca, Andrew and Robyn; father, Jack; and brother Paul (Barb) and family. She will be dearly missed by her extended family of nieces, nephews and in-laws, especially her mother-in-law, Bobbie, and the many friends who visited and supported her through her journey.

Cathy was zealous in her search for information on innovative and new options for treatment. She fought bravely against her disease, enduring surgery, chemotherapy and testing with stoicism, good humor and a positive attitude. She insisted life be lived to its fullest, for herself and others. When faced with the inevitability of her death, she demonstrated dignity, grace and acceptance, comforted by her faith and the love of those dear to her.

Special thanks to Dr. B. Turchen for his compassionate and attentive care, Pastor Frank Martens and long time friend Colleen Davis.

Donations for further research may be made in Cathy's memory to Ovarian Cancer Canada at www.ocac.ca , 1-800-749-9310 or 600 W. 10th Avenue, Vancouver, B. C. V5Z 4E6.

A memorial service and celebration of Cathy's life will be held on September 10th, 2004, 1:30 pm, at Northview Community Church, 32040 Downes Road, Abbotsford. B.C.
