WRIGHT G.R. (Bob) Wright of Abbotsford passed away peacefully on April 10, 2008 at the age of 86 years at Heritage Square, Vernon.

Bob came to Abbotsford in 1949 and for 20 years was the only optometrist. He was an active member of the Abbotsford Lions Club and a long-time member of the Abbotsford Curling Club. As well he was on the Board of Directors of St. Ann's Parish and the Board of Directors of the MSA General Hospital. In 1956 he was instrumental in starting an association for the mentally disabled in this area. With the help of W.J. Moat he founded the Good Shepard School, the first independent school for the disabled in Abbotsford. He also served on the provincial board of examiners for the optometrists for six years. Even with all this community involvement there was always time for golf. He won the club championship in 1959 at the Chilliwack Golf and Country Club and tied for the Fraser Valley championship in 1965.

He will be sadly missed by his five children: Diane Allen, Denise Wright (Rennie Sirianni), Craig (Janis) Wright, Robert Wright, Darcie Wright (Jim Leppard); six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Sandra and wife Charlotte. A family memorial service will be held in Abbotsford on Friday, April 18th, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. at Hazelwood Cemetery and a reception for friends and family to follow at the clubhouse in Glenview Meadows, 3055 Trafalgar at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society of B.C.
