July 21, 1939 – August 7, 2008
It is with great sadness that the family of Bjørn Lauridsen announces his death on August 7, 2008, at age 69, after a courageous 3-month struggle with a very rare and aggressive cancer. Bjørn will be deeply missed by his wife of 42 years, Anne (née Lindsay); daughters Kristi Lauridsen (Elvio Bertoncello), Gitte (Todd) Nessman, and Karyn Lauridsen; grandchildren Cali and Nate Nessman, and Anna Bertoncello; and a large extended family: Lorne and Audrey Lindsay; Pam, Casey, Sarah and Matt Sheridan; Graeme, Sharon, Geoff and Darrell Lindsay; Tad, Tom, Mike and Curt Haraguchi; Susanne (Poul) Bilde-Brerup; Liz (Finn) Brerup; Aase Bak; Kirsten and Christian Andersen; and Hans Lauridsen. Bjørn was predeceased by his parents Anna and Reinhardt; brother Torben Lauridsen; sister-in-law Lilas Haraguchi (née Lindsay); cousin Jan Andersen; and Jørgen Weille Bak. Bjørn was proud to become a Canadian citizen but he also continued his close relationships with many other family and friends in Denmark.
Bjørn grew up in Copenhagen. He travelled to Canada in 1965 and his world tour was interrupted when he met and married Anne (July 7, 1966). They moved to Denmark a few years after their marriage and resided there for 4 years. After working 14 years as a civil engineer, at age 40 Bjørn took on a new challenge, enrolling in the first Landscape Architecture degree program at UBC. Following graduation in 1983, he operated a very successful business for 25 years in Abbotsford and surrounding districts. Bjørn enjoyed reading, photography, music, traveling, golfing, playing cards and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be held with Arlene Kropp officiating. In accordance with Bjørn’s wishes friends, colleagues and family are invited to a celebration of his life on Sunday, August 24 from 1-4 pm at The-Hole-in-the-Wall, 3807 Eldridge Road, Abbotsford.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation (Abbotsford Regional Hospital), 7324 Hurd Street, Mission, BC V2V 3H5, will be gratefully accepted.
