Benjamin COFFMAN

November 19, 2014

COFFMAN, Benjamin Jerry

Benjie, 49, passed away quietly from natural causes on November 19, 2014. He was at his home with his faithful cat "Momma" by his side. He was born on March 22, 1965 in Ellensburg, Washington, where he lived for two years. His next two years were spent in Priddis, Alberta, before moving to Abbotsford. Benjie grew up a very carefree child in the Arnold area, attending Upper Sumas Elementary, playing soccer, attending Boy Scouts, skiing and riding his motorcycle. He went on to Yale Junior and Abby Senior Secondary Schools. Most of his work life was first at Reid-Collins Nurseries and then at Linnea Nurseries where he was a hard-working and dedicated employee. Benjie always had a keen interest in nature. He liked animals and had many pets, including ferrets and a chinchilla. His last cat was with him for 15 years. He even kept a hummingbird feeder on his deck and fixed it with a light for warmth. Benjie also enjoyed tending many plants on his balcony and especially working on his bonsais. He was very mechanically inclined, inventive and creative, and was always working on projects like his giant chimes and climbing places for Momma. He also had a very keen sense of social justice and was a loyal friend to others. He was a kind and caring son to his mother who misses him dearly. Many sincere thanks to those who stuck by Benjie in his difficult times. Friends are invited to gather at 2963 Nelson Place, #57, on Saturday, January 24th from 1:30 to 3:30. If so wished, donations may be made to the SPCA or Salvation Army in memory of Benjie.
