Barbara Mary Dyer of Abbotsford, BC passed away peacefully on September 17, 2014 at Menno Hospital at the age of 93 years. Survived by loving husband Ivan, 71 years together, son Bob, daughter Nancy (Grant) Doheny, sister Dureen Zeller (Rolf), nieces Susan (Grant) Woff and Karen (Craig) Dykes, grandsons Hew Dyer and Evan Doheny, and great grandsons, Ethan and Owen Doheny. Barbara had a heart of gold, an empathy for the troubled and a sympathetic shoulder that was always there to lean on. She loved animals, cats especially, but there wasn't any animal she didn't care for. Among the many rescued over the years were many dogs, cats, even owls, skunks and racoons. Barb worked along side husband Ivan for many years in several business adventures and did volunteering in the health arena notably on Salt Spring Island. Barbara and Ivan took time to travel throughout the US and Canada, going so far as to buy a 52' boat and travel from Montreal to Florida via the Inland Intercoastal waterway at least three times, Barbara being "the crew" while Ivan captained the boat. After moving to the west coast and living in Mission, BC a US cross country journey was in order before settling on Sumas Mountain and building a homestead, living there for 20 years. The family expresses many thanks for the wonderful care Mom received from the staff of Menno Hospital and Dr. Pauls. In lieu of flowers, Barb would wish donations to the SPCA. Service to be held at Simple Cremations, Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel, 11969 216 St., Maple Ridge at 2:00 pm, September 25, 2014.
