In memory of Miss Annie Goertz

After a short stay in Abbotsford Regional Hospital, where she was visited by many of her beloved family and friends, Annie Goertz passed away peacefully on November 10, 2017, aged 98.

Born June 17, 1919 on a farm in Waldheim, SK, Annie was the 8th of 14 children born to Peter and Catherine (Heppner) Goertz.

She was nurtured and loved in a Christian home by her parents and siblings. She attended Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills AB. As a young woman, she was called to serve overseas in missions work in India where she worked as a hostel superintendant, a school principal, nursing in a TB hospital as well as caring for orphans.

She retired in 1984 to Abbotsford BC where she wrote her life story and published her autobiography, “Miss Annie”, and also continued in devoting her time and energy to ministering to others.

Predeceased by her parents and 12 siblings (Isaac, Jacob, Hulda, Mary, Martha, Tillie, Sam, Herb, Rosa, Otto, Miriam and Jonah).

Annie is survived by her brother Edwin, sisters-in-law Alma and Leona, as well as a large extended family of nieces and nephews and their families. Additionally Annie is survived by a large family of 78 orphans who she cared for in India as well as their families.

The family is grateful for the support of the doctors and nursing staff who have cared for Annie.

A favourite life verse of Annie’s: “But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.” Psalm 73:28 (NIV).

Please join the family in celebrating her life. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 7-8 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, BC.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Grace Church, 2087 McMillan Road, Abbotsford, BC. Reception immediately follows service.
