JOHNSON; Allen Leander

Predeceased by his wife Violet in 1994. Also predeceased by his parents Lars and Anna, siblings Annie, Gillis, Ken, Ivadell and nephew Allen. Survived by his daughters Carey (Reg) and Gail; grandchildren Cole, Alyra, Dennis (Kathy), Cathy (Guy); great-grandchildren Krista (Brian), Kaitlyn (Cody), Karlie, Eric (Emma), Emily (Grant), great-great-grandson Harrison, and nieces and nephews Vicki, Gerald, Kimm, Robert, Patrick, Norman and Gary. Born in Kipling, Saskatchewan, Al moved with his parents and siblings to Enderby, BC in 1928. He worked at Canadian Pacific Airlines in Vancouver in 1942. Al joined the Navy in 1944 and was assigned to the military policy duty on troop trains between Winnipeg and Montreal. He was discharged in 1946.

After discharge Al opened a woodworking business in New Westminster making oak desks, church pews, furniture, TV cabinets and later kitchen cabinets. As well as building two beautiful family homes in Coquitlam and Salmon Arm, he was contracted by the BC Forest Service as a project manager and oversaw the construction of many greenhouses throughout the province. In later years in semi-retirement he was involved in building maintenance for the Rap Attack base in Salmon Arm. Al married Violet in 1947. They resided in Coquitlam until moving to Salmon Arm in 1969. In 2010 he moved to Maple Ridge. Al enjoyed woodworking, leatherwork, exploring and camping throughout BC and was an avid reader. He enjoyed discussing current events daily with his coffee buddies at Tim Hortons in Salmon Arm. A special thanks for the excellent care dad received from Dr. Andy Edelson, Fraser Health nurses and the nurses and staff of the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission, BC. No service by request. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Mission Hospice Society, 32180 Hillcrest Ave., Mission, BC V2V 3B8.
