Alice Toews

Alice Toews (nee Janzen), 78 years old of Abbotsford, BC was received by her Lord and Saviour on June 2, 2017 at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. Alice was born to Frank and Lydia Janzen of Winkler, Manitoba, on March 3, 1939. In 1943, the family moved to the Fraser Valley, finally settling in the South Abbotsford area where Alice attended and was baptized at the South Abbotsford MB Church. At 17, Alice took a job in Vancouver in order to help support her family. A year later, in 1958 she married a young teacher by the name of John Toews. The couple remained in Vancouver until 1962 when they moved back to Abbotsford, bought property and began raising a family. Alice rarely complained when life sent her challenges. She learned to trust God for strength and grace while caring for her daughter, Marilyn, born with a disability. John and Alice touched many lives by opening their home to various people over the years. They are remembered for their generous support for mission organizations – Alice spending countless hours volunteering for MCC. Alice will be deeply missed by her husband, John, children, Gary (Karolyn), Marilyn and Loren (Corinne), her 12 grandchildren, her siblings Harold Janzen (Martha), Phyllis Epp (Jake), Irene Klassen (Jim), and Carole Hiebert (Dennis), and many friends and relatives. The family would like to thank the many healthcare workers who served Alice so well. A Celebration of her Life will be held on June 9th at 2:00 pm at South Abbotsford Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can made to MB Mission.
