HOLLOWAY, Alice May

(nee Hunter)

Alice’s family gives thanks for the life of a beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survived by children Jean (Ron Tuttle), Marion (Len Kozier) and Doug (Marian Lines), and grand- children Don, Doug, Julie, David, Carol, Katya, Daniel and great-grandchildren, Mark, Erik, Matthew, Andrew, Charlie, Ellen, Tessa, Amalie, Elise and Avery; dear sister Jean Silk and many nephews and nieces. Alice was born and raised in Fort Langley, BC. She attended Vancouver Normal School and began her teaching career in a one room school in Glenwood. She married Mark Holloway in 1941 and continued to teach while Mark was in the Air Force. After having three children Alice taught school in Richmond and studied at UBC obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree. She valued education and encouraged her children and grandchildren to strive. She retired in 1976 and moved to Abbotsford. Mark passed away in 1981. Alice was an active member of Trinity Memorial United Church, the Retired Teachers’ Bridge Club, W.H.O. Club, University Women’s Club and became an accomplished oil painter. She enjoyed many bus trips and cruises with family and friends. In 2011 Alice moved to Penticton to be closer to her family. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, April 20 at 2:00 pm with reception to follow at Trinity Memorial United Church, 33737 George Ferguson Way, Abbotsford, BC. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to her church - Trinity Memorial United Church.
