Alexander John “Sandy” Stewart, of Summerland, went to be in the arms of Jesus on July 10, 2007 with his wife, three children and extended family by his side. Sandy will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 18 years, Sharon; three children, Curtis, Tyler and Rachel; parents, Frank and Ruby Stewart; two brothers, Frank (Carol) and Laird (Ruth) as well as his Ânephews, nieces and friends. Sandy lived a life full of compassion for others. He was born in Mission on July 6, 1962. Sandy graduated from Mission Secondary School and after went to B.C.I.T. graduating from the Agricultural Program. With that knowledge and his love for the Lord, Sandy went to the Gambia, West Africa to help in propagating trees and letting Âothers know of his commitment to Christ. During those 10 years he married the love of his life, Sharon Sawatzky, whom he met at Bible school. They have three children, Curtis (15), Tyler (14) who were born in Africa and Rachel (11) born in Summerland. After coming back from Africa, Sandy worked at Ripley Stainless and continued to exemplify his love for the Lord in all he did. Sandy was diagnosed with esophagus cancer in January 2007. After numerous setbacks, Sandy realized that his work here on earth was coming to a close. Sandy made the most of every opportunity to still be an encouragement and comforter to all who came to visit. His love and caring for his wife and children were always first and foremost on his mind.Â
A Celebration of Sandy’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2007 at Summerland Baptist Church, 13018 Elliot Street, Summerland with Pastor Larry Schram officiating. Interment will follow at the Canyon View Cemetery, Summerland Memorial tributes may be directed to the Compassion Canada.Â
