Alexander Donald CAMPBELL

September 26, 2005

Alexander Donald

June 24, 1921 — Sept. 26, 2005

Died peacefully in his sleep following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Loving husband of 61 years to Mavis and father to sons Blair (Linda), Kent (Pam), and Robert (Kim) and grandfather to seven grandchildren: Sandy, Kelly; Jesse, Kaitlin; Alex, Brett, and Evan. Predeceased by daughter Janet Werner in 1995.

Donald was born in Halifax, NS and raised in Sydney, NS. Following graduation from Mt. Allison University (B.A. Hons, 1941) he joined the Navy to serve his country as gunnery Lieutenant protecting Atlantic merchant ships from U-boat attacks.

After the war, Donald settled in British Columbia with his new bride Mavis, and raised his family while successfully progressing his new career as a high school physics teacher and District Superintendent, from which he retired in 1978. His retirement years were enjoyed between Hemet California and home in Abbotsford, BC, where he actively pursued his hobbies of square dancing, golf, genealogy, motor home touring, playing cards (a cribbage whiz) and his beloved organ, while entertaining his ham radio friends with his corny jokes.

He is greatly loved and will be tremendously missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

The Funeral was held at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Road, Abbotsford on Friday, Sept. 30, 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Christine Morrison Hospice at Mission Memorial Hospital, Mission BC would be appreciated.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the incredible staff at the Christine Morrison Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion shown to their father.
