July 22, 1932 - September 9, 2024
Agnes Jean Kennedy (née Mackie) aged 92 passed away at Menno Home September 9, 2024 of heart failure. Agnes was born July 22, 1932, in Trail BC to Alexander and Elsie Mackie, joining her older brother, Alexander and sister, Phyllis. Her father died when she was 3 and her brother, Bob was born soon after their father's death. Their mother, who had been a teacher before her husband's death was not permitted to return to teaching having been married. She became a housekeeper and insisted that Agnes have training to fall back on. Hence, Agnes took piano lessons, received her ARCT and taught piano for over 45 years. She married Merle Kennedy in 1952, and they both attended British Columbia Bible Institute, followed by pastoral positions with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada in Lac la Hache, Grand Forks, Vanderhoof, Williams Lake and Terrace until 1981. Agnes and Merle moved to Abbotsford in 1983 where they both retired in 1999.
Their lives reflected their solid faith in God, and they continued displaying that faith into their retirement by reaching out to help friends and neighbours. Agnes loved to travel, and Merle and she made many trips both local and international. After Merle's death in 2012, Agnes made the difficult transition to life on her own. She continued to travel in the province and made one more international trip to London with her children in 2014.
In 2023 poor health forced a move into long-term care. Fiercely independent and never at a loss for an opinion, Agnes passed on to her children a love of the church, the value of faith, independence, life-long learning, a work ethic, training and education. She was predeceased by her sister, Phyllis at age 18 and her brothers, Alex and Bob. She is survived by Terry, Tom (Patsy) and Dawn (Cliff) Stronstad, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, her sisters-in-law, Gloria, Marie (Merle's twin), Lorraine (Harold) and her lifelong friend Denise York.

At a later date, her ashes will be interred next to Merle's and her parents in Mountain View Cemetery, Trail, BC. A memorial service will take place September 28, 2:00 p.m. at Christian Life Community Church, 35131 Straiton Road, Abbotsford. No flowers please.
