March 10, 1933 - January 21, 2022
Abram Loewen, or as he preferred to be called, Abe, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2022 at the Menno Home in Abbotsford BC. Abe was born in the small village of Fernheim, Paraguay, on March 10, 1933, to Margareta and Abram Loewen. In 1950 his family immigrated to Canada settling here in the Fraser Valley - first in Yarrow and then in the community of Arnold.
Abe moved to Vancouver where he met his wife Helga (deBuhr) whom he married in 1959. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm - first in Clayburn village and then in the community of Arnold. He attended the Arnold Community Church where he was an usher and where he had been baptised years earlier. After he retired, Abe and his wife Helga enjoyed travelling with friends and family to countries such as Russia, Germany, and Israel. He became a regular walker at the mall.
Unfortunately, Parkinson's disease made it difficult for him to participate in many of his regular activities in his later years. Difficult as things were for him, he never complained.
Abe enjoyed a good suit, a good laugh, and time with friends and family. We will miss his sense of humour, love for his family and his insights into life's nuances.
Abe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helga, his daughters Marlene(Sherman), Hildi(Colin), Elsie(Ron), (Kelvin), 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, as well as his sisters Katie Enns and Lydia Koop. He is predeceased by daughter Rosalie, siblings Elizabeth, John, Helmut, Walter, Alvin, Linda, and his parents Margareta and Abram Loewen.
A special heartfelt Thank you to those at the Bevan Lodge and the Menno Home for providing care to Abe these last few years.
