Work begins on new Bertrand Creek bridge

The project involves installation of a temporary detour bridge, removal of the existing structure, and installation of a new structure.

Work will soon begin to replace the Bertrand Bridge in Aldergrove, approximately four kilometers north of the U.S. border crossing on Highway 13 (264 Street).

The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2015.

The project involves installation of a temporary detour bridge, removal of the existing structure, and installation of a new structure.

The project will increase safety, capacity, mobility and reliability on a route that is an important link between the Canada-US border and Fraser Highway and Highway 1 in Aldergrove.

This project coincides with the major upgrade of the Canada Customs facility at the Aldergrove-Lynden border crossing.

The project is part of "BC on the Move", the Province of British Columbia’s new 10 year transportation plan.

“This is an important investment for this community,” said Fort Langley-Aldergrove MLA Rich Coleman.

“The new Bertrand Bridge will improve capacity and traffic access along Highway 13 to and from the Aldergrove border crossing, ultimately reducing traffic congestion on a main channel.”

A $2.06-million contract has been awarded to Martens Asphalt Ltd. of Surrey to carry out the work.
