A 30-year-old woman from Vancouver is dead after a kayaking mishap on the Vedder River in Chilliwack on Sunday.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail said police attended to the scene in Yarrow after a report of an overturned kayak on the river between Lickman Road and the Keith Wilson Bridge.

First responders also attended and discovered the woman in the water.

“She was treated at the scene but succumbed to her injuries,” Rail said Tuesday.

The B.C. Coroners Service is now in charge of the case and is in the early stages of the investigation.

Rail said no further comments will be made at this time.
