Weather conditions good for crime reduction

Only one crime reported in Abbotsford during a 24-hour period at the height of a winter storm.

The weather conditions last week may have been bad for drivers, but they were good for crime reduction.

Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said police received only one report of a crime during a 24-hour period from Wednesday morning to Thursday morning, during the height of a winter storm that saw high winds and white-out conditions.

The incident involved a man climbing a pole to steal a closed-circuit video camera from a business in the 33300 block of South Fraser Way.

MacDonald said the witness who reported the crime described it as follows: “The guy shimmied up the icy pipe at the back of the building like a sure-footed rodent.”
