One of two people taken to hospital after a party in Abbotsford is wheeled out on a stretcher.

A 22-year-old man could be facing assault charges following an out-of-control party that took place Friday night in Abbotsford.

Police were called just after midnight to the 34900 block of McCabe Place, where more than 40 people were in attendance. Most left the scene when police arrived.

Const. Ian MacDonald said police soon discovered that a 14-year-old had been hosting the party while his parents were in Vancouver, and "everyone was extremely intoxicated."

One of the boy's friends, also 14, had apparently been punched in the face and was taken to hospital for treatment and assessment of his injuries.

MacDonald said another teen at the party had also been injured, but refused medical treatment or to disclose any details to police.

MacDonald said witnesses told police that there had been a man waving around a knife at the party and that they saw him punch the teen in the face.

Police located a vehicle not far from the scene with four people who were believed to have been at the party.

Among them was the suspected assailant, a 22-year-old man, who was arrested.

MacDonald said the investigation is continuing and police hope to recommend assault charges against him.

They are asking for any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to come forward by calling the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225 or texting abbypd (222973).
