Construction on improvements at Jubilee Park have wrapped up, just in time for the local event season.
The $2.7 million project began in 2018, and celebrated its grand re-opening on Friday.
The project saw the replacement of the lawn bowling club with a new path and parking lot, the formalization of another lot at the park’s south end, and new walkways aimed at better linking the downtown landmark with the surrounding neighbourhood. A new lawn bowling pitch at Mill Lake Park, off of Bevan Avenue, was also built and included in the project’s total budget.
A slight rise has also been added in the lawn to provide better viewing for concert events.
The city, province and Abbotsford Downtown Business Association all provided funding for the project.
The city also hopes to re-open the Centennial Library at the north end of Jubilee Park. The goal is to add offices and a coffee/ice cream shop with a deck facing Jubilee Park.
