Police officers were called to a field at Boundary and No. 2 Roads just on the border of Chilliwack and Abbotsford Wednesday evening after a body was found in a field.

Homicide investigators are probing the death of a man found Wednesday afternoon in a blueberry field along Abbotsford's western border with Chilliwack.

A witness close to the scene said a body was found by workers. She heard screaming and went out to see what was happening.

An RCMP helicopter landed around 7 p.m. and No. 2 Road was blocked off as officers investigate.

The Abbotsford Police department says it was called to the scene, at Boundary Road and No. 2 Road in Abbotsford, at 4:47 p.m. The APD says its major crime detectives were on scene, and that the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was contacted and will assume responsibility for the investigation.

The man's identity is not yet known.

The witness said a day earlier she saw a man holding what she thought was a large white kite or some other object that he kept lifting and dropping to the ground. She thought it was "bizarre behaviour," which went on for more than four hours but the man was moving around in the blueberry field so she thought that whatever he was doing, it was related to the farm.
