An 86-year-old Chilliwack woman died and three other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Sumas prairie in Abbotsford on Monday at about 11:40 a.m.

Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said a 2013 Mazda 3 and a 1997 Chevy Lumina crashed near the intersection of Marion and Campbell roads, and the Lumina spun off the road into a water-filled ditch.

The deceased woman was a passenger in the Mazda. The 87-year-old male driver, also of Chilliwack, was taken to hospital, where he was in serious condition as of yesterday at press deadline.

Two Abbotsford women – ages 82 and 84 – had to be extricated from the Lumina. They were in stable condition in hospital as of yesterday.

The driver of the Mazda and one of the occupants of the Lumina were airlifted to hospital, while the other Lumina occupant was transported by ground ambulance.

Investigators are still working out the exact circumstances of the crash.
