A 29-year-old Abbotsford man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at the Mission CIBC Monday morning.
A lone male robbed the First Avenue Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce shortly after 11 a.m. Monday, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
According to Mission RCMP Staff Sgt. Rob Dickson, the male produced a handgun, and was wearing a dark grey hoodie with no logo, and black sweat pants.
He entered and exited the bank from the rear alley entrance, said Dickson. No injuries were reported.
Abbotsford Police Department arrested Jeffery Russell around midnight June 25 on an unrelated outstanding warrant.
Mission RCMP’s Sgt. Shaun Wright said a “significant portion of the stolen cash was recovered at the time of Russell’s arrest” but the handgun was not located.
Crown counsel has approved charges of robbery and using an imitation firearm during the commission of an offence relating to this incident, said Wright.
The Monday morning incident capped off a number of calls for service over the past number of days for local police, firefighters and paramedics.
On Sunday, a cyclist heading eastbound on Tunbridge Street collided with a westbound vehicle just before 3 p.m.
Dickson said the male cyclist was stable, but still airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital by B.C. Ambulance Service due to the extent of his injuries.
A lone motorcyclist was also taken to RCH by air ambulance following a collision Saturday afternoon at Cedar Street and 11 Avenue. Dickson said a black SUV northbound on Cedar Street was hit by the motorcyclist who was exiting a driveway around 2:50 p.m.
On Friday afternoon, Mission Fire/Rescue Service was called to assist ambulance in rescuing a man who had fallen inside a home on Moss Avenue, just north of municipal hall.
Mission RCMP said the man's injuries were severe, and he was not expected to survive.
