Roads were blocked by security staff at the top of hill leading down to Glen Valley.

The flood evacuation order for residents of Glen Valley and parts of Matsqui Prairie has been lifted for all but two homes.

Deputy Fire Chief Mike Helmer said engineers have examined River Road and the surrounding area impacted by the rising Fraser River and determined that most residents may return, for now.

The fraser River is expected to remain at its current level, or lower, for the next few days. However residents are still on alert as the water is expected to rise again by the end of the week.

The water level could surpass seven metres

At about 8 a.m. on Monday, the gauge at the Mission bridge was at 6.25 metres. During the weekend, the level of water never broke the 6.4-metre mark as was originally forecast.
