A pair of two-vehicle collisions backed up traffic in the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 about two kilometres past the Whatcom Road exit on Thursday afternoon.
The accidents occurred within moments of each other at about 4 p.m.
The first one involved a Ford, four-door sedan which rear-ended a second vehicle.
There were initial reports of injuries, and the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service, an ambulance and police attended the scene, however, the ambulance was not required.
The second collision occurred about another kilometre further east, also in the eastbound lanes. A Mazda 3 apparently rear-ended another vehicle.
Fire rescue crews, police and ambulance are also on that scene, with emergency responders tending to a backseat passenger. The driver is out of the vehicle, and there do not appear to be other injuries.
As of 5 p.m. traffic was backed up past the Whatcom Road exit, but was moving slowly with one lane open.
