UPDATE: Robbery suspect named

Police are investigating whether the same suspects were involved in both incidents.

Police are investigating whether two robberies Wednesday morning – one in Mission and one in Abbotsford – are related.

The first took place in Mission at about 6:40 a.m., when a man brandishing a firearm demanded cash from an employee at the Mac’s Convenience Store on Seventh Avenue. He then fled in a vehicle.

The second robbery occurred at about 7:30 a.m., when a man carrying a real or replica handgun demanded money from a worker at a convenience store in the 1500 block of McCallum Road near King Road, and fled in a green car.

Abbotsford Police found an abandoned Jeep Cherokee – believed to be associated with the robbery – on McCallum near Farmer Road.

Officers, including a K9 unit, tracked  a man to a field, but he was determined to be on the U.S. side of the border and was arrested by American authorities.

He was turned back over to Abbotsford Police later that day. Jorden Leland-Weaver, 18, from Surrey has been charged with robbery, wearing a disguise, and using an imitation firearm.

MacDonald said police believe a second person was involved, and they are continuing to investigate.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161 or the Abbotsford Police at 604-859-5225.
