A man has been charged following an attempted bank robbery on Wednesday morning.
Jesse Damond Morton, 37, allegedly used a sledgehammer to break through the window of a TD branch on Whatcom Road after 7:30 a.m., before the bank had opened, and demanded money.
Const. Ian MacDonald said employees contacted police, who already had several units close by, including police officers in an unmarked vehicle less than 100 metres from the bank.
"If you want to talk about the person picking the wrong bank, it would be this guy," said MacDonald.
A police officer saw the man fleeing with a bag over his shoulder and took him into custody.
"We swooped in and we arrested the individual right away."
MacDonald said that officers found two loaded firearms on the man, including a handgun and an assault rifle.
Morton has been charged with attempted robbery, break and enter, uttering threats, carrying a concealed weapon, use of a firearm in the commission of an offence, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace and possession of a prohibited weapon.
