An Abbotsford man who robbed a bank on Tuesday afternoon pleaded guilty the following day and was sentenced to two years less a day in prison.
Const. Ian MacDonald said Edward Mackenzie, 37, demanded cash from a teller at the CIBC on McCallum Road at about 2 p.m. He did not have any weapons.
Police reviewed surveillance video and obtained a suspect description from witnesses. Mackenzie was found at a bus stop on Essendene Avenue and was wearing the same clothing as in the video.
MacDonald said he was also carrying cash of the same denomination that had been handed over to him at the bank. He was charged with robbery, breach of his bail conditions, and breach of probation.
MacDonald said Mackenzie has numerous previous convictions, including for assault, sexual assault, mischief, theft, causing a police pursuit and various breaches.
