An Abbotsford man died after an accident that occurred while he was working on his car on Friday.

Assistant Fire Chief Dave Rivett said fire, police and ambulance crews responded at about 12:30 p.m. to reports that a man was trapped under a vehicle. The call came in from the man's wife, who had been out and arrived home to find her husband pinned under the car, Rivett said.

He said crews had to use the Jaws of Life to lift the vehicle off the man.

The incident took place on a property on Downes Road between Mt. Lehman and Ross roads. The exact location has not been released.

An air ambulance was called, with a landing zone set up in the field at Mennonite Educational Institute on Downes Road east of the accident scene.

The man was transported by ambulance to the field, and crews performed CPR as the helicopter arrived, but the air ambulance did not transport him.

Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said the man died en route to hospital.
