An ultralight pilot had a quicker end to his day out than anticipated Sunday afternoon.
The pilot suffered no injuries after his aircraft ran into trouble on Silvermere Lake around 1 p.m. April 28.
Mission RCMP and fire/rescue service were called out to Lougheed Highway after a white aircraft went into the lake. According to the pilot, who declined to give his name, he was attempting to land, and hit a piece of debris in the water which punctured the float.
He told The Record he had been flying since 1962 and that he wasn’t scared after collision.
“But it was unusual,” he shared.
Mission RCMP Staff Sgt. Rob Dickson said the Surrey pilot was experienced and that Transport Canada was notified but did not attend.
Also, said Dickson, a small fuel leak from the plane was reported to the District of Mission for containment.
