Police arrested two suspects on Mt. Lehman Road in Abbotsford after they fled from police in Coquitlam and Surrey.

Two suspects fleeing from police in Coquitlam were arrested in Abbotsford last night in an incident that involved numerous police agencies and the RCMP Air Services helicopter.

The incident began when Coquitlam RCMP received a report of suspicious activities related to a vehicle in the 2900 block of Silver Springs Boulevard in Coquitlam.

One responding marked police car was damaged when the suspect vehicle fled from the area.

The RCMP Air Services helicopter was then dispatched and was quickly able to locate the vehicle on Highway 1, exiting into Surrey, where the suspects collided with a marked police car.

The culprits continued east on Highway 1 into Abbotsford, under the constant monitoring of Air Services.

The vehicle was stopped at 12:26 a.m. through the assistance of the Abbotsford Police Department after deployment of a spike belt. After a short foot pursuit, the two suspects were taken into custody near the Mt. Lehman exit of Highway 1.

Coquitlam RCMP said that at no time were police in pursuit of the suspect vehicle, as it was being monitored from the sky by Air Services.

They said no police officers were injured, and the two police cars hit by the fleeing suspects sustained only minor damage.

Agencies involved in the incident also included the Integrated Road Safety Unit and the  Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service.

Police said no other information will be released at this time, including the names of the two people arrested, pending the approval of criminal charges.
