Two plead guilty to violent assault

Bhavdeep Deol and Herman Sidhu were among three men who attacked a man as he left an Abbotsford pub in August 2010.

Two Abbotsford men have pleaded guilty to their involvement in a violent assault that took place in August 2010.

Bhavdeep Deol, 23, and Herman Sidhu, 22, were originally charged with aggravated assault but have pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of assault causing bodily harm.

They are both scheduled to appear for pre-sentence reports on May 30 in Abbotsford provincial court.

Co-accused Gurparit Gill, 33, was sentenced in May 2011 to a four-year prison term after pleading guilty to aggravated assault.

The trio attacked a 24-year-old man on Aug. 22, 2010 as he left Finnegan's Pub in the 33700 block of King Road.

The victim was punched, kicked and stabbed three times in the arms and torso.

The three assailants left the scene in a black Honda Civic, and were stopped by police near Albert Dyck Park on Walmsley Avenue.

The victim recovered in hospital, and the trio were arrested and charged in November 2010. Sidhu faced an additional charge of failing to provide a breath sample at the scene.

He later pleaded guilty to a lesser offence of driving without due care and attention, and received a four-month driving prohibition.

Meanwhile, Deol is before the courts on another matter. He was charged last summer with obstructing a police officer, "personation" to avoid arrest, and breach of his bail conditions.

He allegedly did not produce his driver's licence and gave police a false name when he was pulled over in a traffic stop last July.

Deol next appears in court June 7 on those charges.
