A Highway 99 crash killed an Abbotsford truck driver Wednesday morning.

An Abbotsford father has been identified as the victim of a fatal truck crash in Delta Wednesday morning.

Ravinder Singh Atwal died when his truck crashed and burst into flames on Highway 99 Wednesday morning. While police have not yet released his name, his employer, Shimmy Walia of Mid-Valley Sand and Gravel, told The News that Atwal was the victim of Wednesday's collision.

Walia said Atwal, who was in his 30s, was "an excellent driver" and had a wife and two kids.

CTV reported that witnesses saw Atwal's southbound truck wobble and lose control before lurching upward and jack-knifing over a median. They said it then struck a van heading in the opposite direction, causing an unbelievable explosion.

CTV reported at the time that Good Samaritans tried to pull the truck driver of from the wreckage but were unsuccessful after the flames consumed the vehicle’s cab.

“They had fire extinguishers and they were trying to extinguish the fire,” said Darlene Ward. “They did their best to get the guy out, but they had to give up.”

The drivers of two other vehicles  were injured in the crash and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
