An Abbotsford home was badly damaged this week when heavily winds uprooted a nearby tree and sent it crashing into the roof, nearly hitting a teenage girl inside.
A witness said it sounded like an earthquake or explosion when the tree collapsed on the roof just after 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
The family living in the home said they contacted the City of Abbotsford multiple times in the past two years to express concern over the nearby trees, hoping an arborist would be sent.
The city said significant work had been done in the area in early 2018 which included the removal of certain trees.
A city worker made an inspection of the fallen tree on Thursday and said the tree’s foundations had been weakened by a beaver.
While the collapsed tree has been removed by city crews, five additional trees now require removal because of the beaver’s handiwork.
