The heavy snowfall last week gave way to rain and black ice as drivers needed to be careful on Monday morning.

There was plenty of news from Abbotsford council where service groups were looking for more funding, a request for more slot machines was rejected, residents complained about the “unfair” tiered water rates and the cost of the unsuccessful Stave Lake project were revealed.

In other news, a 110,000 litre oil spill took place at the Kinder Morgan pipeline company and a huge fire in Chilliwack on Friday knocked out power to more than 36,000 homes in the Fraser Valley.

In entertainment news, the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre announced a new show. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra is coming in April.

In sports, the Abbotsford Heat were swept by the Vancouver Canucks farm team, the Chicago Wolves.
