Teen rescued after ATV crash in Abbotsford

Fire crews and paramedics travel to off-road area to save 17-year-old on Vedder Mountain.

A 17-year-old Abbotsford boy was rescued by emergency crews from an off-road area after crashing on his all-terrain vehicle Saturday night and suffering possible spinal injuries.

Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service (AFRS) responded to the accident at about 7:15 p.m. When they arrived to the 41200 block of Old Yale Road, they were informed that the teen was located in an off-road area that would require the use of 4x4 vehicles.

Fire crews had taken to the scene a recently purchased specialized 4x4 truck which is used for accessing off-road wildland fires in mountainous areas.

They then travelled to the scene of the ATV crash on the Abbotsford/Chilliwack border in the Majuba Hill area of Vedder Mountain.

The Chilliwack Fire Department and Chilliwack Search and Rescue were also dispatched to the site, but their services were not required.

AFRS and paramedics worked together to treat the teen and transport him back to the staging area on Old Yale Road.

He was then transported to hospital by ambulance. His condition is not known at this time.
