Storm knocks out power to 8,000 customers in Abbotsford

The city was among the hardest hit areas in the Lower Mainland during heavy winds and rain on Sunday night.

Abbotsford was among the hardest hit areas of the Lower Mainland during Sunday night's heavy winds and rain, according to BC Hydro.

About 26,000 customers in the Lower Mainland were left without power during the peak of the storm between 8 and 9 p.m., and 10 feeders were out.

Feeders are the lines that bring power into communities from high voltage transmission lines.

In Abbotsford, almost 8,000 customers were without power at the height of the storm.

BC Hydro said the areas hardest hit for outages were Vancouver (around the University Endowment Lands), Burnaby, Surrey, Delta and Abbotsford.

Crews worked throughout the night and had the majority of customers back on by midnight.

A few remaining pockets were still out on Monday morning, but power was expected to be restored by 10 a.m.
