Specialty hiking gear stolen from U-Haul

Thieves use a bolt cutter to break the lock on trailer parked near an Abbotsford hotel.

Between $13,000 and $15,000 worth of specialty hiking gear was stolen from a U-Haul trailer in Abbotsford early Monday morning.

The trailer was parked near the Best Western Plus Regency Inn and Conference Centre in the 32000 block of Marshall Road. Const. Ian MacDonald said it was filled with Kenetrek brand items, including 50 pairs of hiking boots valued at about $250 each and 20 pairs of socks worth about $20 each.

MacDonald said the trailer had been driven from northern B.C. by someone who was either a salesman or a distributor, and the items were to be delivered to local retailers.

The thieves had used a bolt cutter to break the lock on the U-Haul.

Anyone who comes across any Kenetrek items being sold, other than through businesses, is asked to contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.
