Skateboarder 'fell out of the sky' onto woman's car

Abbotsford Police responded to an unusual call on Monday.

Some drivers find it difficult to drive with rain falling on their windshield, let alone a skateboarder.

Abbotsford Police received such a call at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Monday.

The woman on the line called in the incident "a little bit strangely," according to Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald.

The 47-year-old was driving her Volkswagen in the 2800 block of Babich Street when she said a skateboarder "fell out of the sky" and landed on her windshield.

"Upon investigation, we determined that essentially that's what happened," said MacDonald.

The 19-year-old skateboarder had set up a jump ramp, hit it at high speed and went airborne. His first point of contact was the woman's car.

There were only minor injuries in the incident.

According to MacDonald, in addition to picking up the cost of damage to the vehicle, the skateboarder received a "stern talking to" from police.

"We are committed to road safety, but that road safety also includes people on bikes, boards, blades and pedestrians," said MacDonald.
