Ten shots were fired at a rural residence on Hope Road early Sunday morning, but Abbotsford Police say the wrong home was hit.Const. Ian MacDonald said the bullets were intended for a high-ranking member of the Duhre Group who also lives on the street. He would not say where the intended victim lives in relation to the home that was fired at.No one was injured. MacDonald said the residents of the home that was shot at are all “upstanding citizens” who are involved in farming.“They have no involvement in gangs or drugs whatsoever,” he said.The residents did not answer phone calls or come to the door, but a cousin contacted by the Abbotsford News said a couple and their grown son and teenager daughter live in the home.The shooting was reported by an occupant of the home and occurred at about 1:40 a.m. Sunday. MacDonald said it is not yet known how many people were involved in the shooting, and whether they were on foot or in a vehicle. He said it appears the rounds were fired from a stationary position, rather than during a drive-by, because there was no “spatter” pattern to them.The bullet holes marked by police could be seen on Monday: one to a basement window, two to the front door, three to the wall just below the living room window, and four to the living room window.Police have said the Duhre Group is currently the dominant gang in Abbotsford, taking over drug supply lines left by the arrests and murders of high-profile Red Scorpions and UN Gang members.MacDonald said some people who joined the Duhre Group in the last year have since splintered off in an attempt to gain control, but a strong secondary gang has not yet emerged from that.“It isn’t just one group of individuals who are in opposition to the Duhres,” he said.This has resulted in much volatility in the drug and gang world, he added.MacDonald said this incident has many similarities to the targeted shooting that took place Jan. 4 at a home in the 2500 block of Bradner Road. In that incident, eight to 12 shots were fired as a young woman pulled into her driveway. One shot narrowly missed her head.
