The sexual assault trial began Monday in B.C. Supreme Court in Chilliwack for Tim Bachman, one of the founding members of the legendary Canadian rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

Bachman, 59, was charged in June 2010 with sexual interference of a young person under 14, touching a young person for a sexual purpose, and sexual assault.

An investigation was launched when a young woman came forward to the Abbotsford Police Department in March 2009, alleging she had been sexually abused by Bachman from the ages of 11 to 14.

Bachman was an Abbotsford resident and realtor at the time.

Shortly after the charges were laid, a publication ban was placed on Bachman's name, in order to protect the identity of the complainant.

That ban was lifted in court on Wednesday, following an application by a reporter with The Canadian Press.

The ban was also lifted on the name of the complainant, Stacy Bohun, now 24.

Bohun testified that she had been a foster child in the Bachman home during the time of the alleged offences.

Bohun testified that Bachman groped her and had her sit on his lap while he kissed her, according to The Canadian Press.

A date is being set today for the continuation of the trial.

Bachman founded BTO along with his brothers Randy and Robbie, as well as Fred Turner. He left the group in 1974, but rejoined BTO for a 1984 reunion and led touring versions of the band in 1987 and ’88.

BTO is best known for the hit songs You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet and Takin’ Care of Business.

Bachman started working as a realtor in Abbotsford in 1991. He was a director of the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board from 2003-08.

In 2008, Bachman’s brother Randy held a benefit concert for him at MSA Arena after he suffered a heart attack, had quadruple heart bypass surgery and needed to take time off work to recuperate.
