There are only 100 spots available in the 5K and 10K races in the Envision Financial Run for Water scheduled to run this Sunday, May 26 at Mill Lake Park. The 5K and 10K runs are capped at 2,800 and 1,200 respectively for safety reasons. The half and full marathons still have spots for more to runners to join in.
"For the last two years, the 5K has sold out in the week before the run," race director Kelly Neumann said. "This is everyone's last chance to enter to run this weekend."
Anyone can log into www.runforwater.ca to register online for a chance to take part in the largest running event of its kind in British Columbia. The Envision Financial Run for Water is unique in scheduling the four different races to end at relatively the same time. This produces a festival atmosphere at the finish line in time to have a celebration at the finish line with entertainment, music, kids' activities and family fun.
Anyone can still donate by clicking on the DONATE NOW button on the website (www.runforwater.ca) or https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/LoginRegister.aspx?EventID=109303&LangPref=en-CA&Referrer=direct%2fnone. Only $35 will give a child clean water for the rest of his or her life. All the fundraising in the past has made a difference in hundreds of girls' lives who previously had to spend hours every day walking to fetch unclean water for their families. These girls are now in school.
This year's fundraising will go to Koshale, Bonke District, in Ethiopia, which is primarily a farming community and finds less than 15% of its residents have access to clean water.
Last year's Run for Water had a record turnout of 4,254 runners.
