The Chilliwack VooDoo Derby Dollz rallied together on Saturday to raise money for their teammate, Julie Barr, who recently lost her leg to an infection.

The team hosted a fundraising scrimmage to raise money for Barr, who goes by the roller derby name Sheila Hurt-U, after she came down with a Group A strep infection that put her into intensive care.

Barr came off life support before Christmas, but the treatment to save her life caused her extremities to lose circulation. This led to the amputation of part of her leg and she will soon lose some of her fingers and toes.

Barr was given a day pass so she could attend the fundraiser, held at the Ag-Rec Centre in Abbotsford. Proceeds from the event will go to Barr, a wife and mother of two, to help make her home more accessible.

For those wishing to donate, a direct donation can be made to TD Canada Trust 0274, Account 6445026. Email transfers are accepted and can be sent to vickiebonus@telus.net or duke76@telus.net.
