Ridge Meadows RCMP arrested man suspected in armed robberies

Stephen Burleigh has been charged with one count of armed robbery.

A 52-year-old Surrey man has been charged with armed robbery after being arrested earlier this week in Maple Ridge.

This past fall, numerous armed robberies occurred at stores throughout Surrey, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

In each incident, the suspect bore a similar appearance, produced a weapon and demanded money and cigarettes.

The police investigation identified a suspect who had an outstanding Canada-wide warrant for a parole violation.

On Tuesday, Ridge Meadows RCMP observed the suspect and arrested him without incident.

The suspect was held in custody and had a first court appearance on Thursday.

Stephen Burleigh has been charged with one count of armed robbery.

Police said Burleigh has an extensive criminal record with offences that span the Lower Mainland.
