Some tall bushes caught on fire between two homes on Haida Drive on Thursday night.

A brush fire on Wednesday night in Abbotsford was put out by citizens before fire crews arrived on scene.

The fire began in some tall bushes between two houses on Haida Drive at about 7:30 p.m.

It had jumped the fence, and the grass was on fire in the green space between Haida and Rotary Stadium, according to a witness.

Several men, including Jesse Du Frene and his 13-year-old son Caleb, began stomping it out.

Caleb poured a four-gallon jug of water onto the fire and he put out the rest of it using a hose, which someone had handed to him, while the others continued to stomp on it.
